A lot of people make fun of the annual Chartered Institute of Housing conference in Harrogate, and I didn't really know what to expect when I went for the first time this year.

It was a lot bigger than expected and it took me a while to get oriented. There was something for everyone – tenant involvement, development and so on. I met new, interesting people and exchanged ideas on current housing issues.

The stands were busy; you could feel the buzz in the air. The seminars were informative and the range was mind-boggling.

As a student, it gave me an opportunity to put a lot of theory into context. To top it off, I had my picture taken with Keith Hill … one for the album.

So would I do it all again? Definitely.
