Firm appointed project director on overdue train station redevelopment scheme

Turner & Townsend has been appointed to oversee the revamp of Birmingham's New Street station by the city's council. The scheme will see station pedestrian capacity substantially increased and a complete redevelopment of the station concourse and platforms. Pedestrian access to the station will also be improved.

Birmingham city council leader Mike Whitby said he was pleased at the appointment: He said: "As the project moves from design development through to procurement and implementation, it is essential we ensure appropriate project management skills are secured to realise this key project for both the city and the West Midlands as a whole."
