Housebuilders do care. It is unfortunate that Dr Mike Murray’s experience of house-buying has tainted his view. Having recognised that there is a shortfall in good housing site management, surely he can see an educational opportunity.

‘Housebuilding’ has always been perceived as the poor relation of Construction Management, but the disciplines of large project management have a parallel with the good organisation of complex housing sites. The development of specific courses tailored to the unique problems encountered by residential development should be recognised and exploited.

The technical aspects of ‘brownfield’ remediation, the control and monitoring of material and sub-contractor supply chains, and the recognition of the various stakeholders demands specific training needs.

Murray is best placed to provide the industry with a tailored programme of training. He should use his position to teach and not criticise.
