Jamera marches on
Two more housebuilders are trialling Jamera, the Finnish aircrete building system from H+H Celcon. Redrow is looking at incorporating Jamera elements into its existing Heritage and Harwood house types. Bovis Homes is trialling the same elements and in addition is looking at using reinforced Jamera wall panels in place of solid thin joint walls. Laing Partnership Housing will be the first to use the complete Jamera system in three houses in Bethnal Green, London.

Fully automated plant
Timber frame housing manufacturer Stewart Milne will eventually employ 300 people at its new factory in Witney, Oxfordshire. The fully automated £10m plant is due to open in January 2002 and will be capable of producing 6000 house kits a year, increasing Stewart Milne's total capacity to 10-12 000 homes a year.

Finnish giant picks UK
Finnforest is set to open its first I-beam factory in King's Lynn before the end of the year. The Finnish timber giant has taken the decision to invest in the UK because of the current positive attitude towards timber products. The factory will also produce I-beams for the Continent.

Anti-theft plant device
A British company has patented a device designed to prevent theft of outdoor plants. The manufacturers say that PlantAnchor helps prevent theft of shrubs and plants from new housing estates. The device works by anchoring plants or containers using adjustable steel straps.

Doors open online
Door manufacturer Leaderflush+Shapland has launched an online procurement facility for specifiers and contractors. The site should speed up and streamline the process of product selection, specification, ordering and purchase.
