With regard to David Eden’s letter (“Under siege in Thanet”, 3 October, page 25), the inspection of Thanet District Council’s housing services looked at a number of functions, including homelessness services, leasehold management, estate management, allocations, housing strategy as well as responsive repairs. Overall, the service was rated as fair, but there were strengths and weaknesses across the service areas inspected. ¶

Weaknesses in the repairs service were highlighted in the report and taken into consideration when reaching the final assessment. The council received a “promising” judgment, as it had not only recognised the deficiencies in the repairs services, but also had concrete plans to bring about improvements. In other service areas, improvements had already been made.
