In response to this, Action Energy and CIBSE have launched Building Log books – a user’s guide to provide advice on using building log books for facilities managers, building operators and energy managers. The guide is also designed to help maintenance staff, consultants and contractors who work in a range of buildings.

The guide covers the benefits of using log books, how to use them on a daily basis, how to conduct an annual review as part of quality assurance procedures, examples of how to log energy performance compared with benchmarks and a detailed example assessing the performance of each energy end use in a large air-conditioned office.
