Procurement in the physical security sector can be a complex process if you are unaware of which standards govern security for different applications and levels of risk.
Recognising this fact, the British Security Industry Association is busy working in partnership with the Loss Prevention Certification Board and Secured By Design on a series of guides on applicable standards. The guides identify the minimum standard that equipment should be manufactured to, and match relevant testing standards with different levels of risk.

Our aim is three-fold: to clarify which standards are relevant for different security products, to help purchasers feel better informed when liaising with security suppliers and – ultimately – to guide customers to the most appropriate products for meeting their security needs.

To date, two guides have been published in the series – covering security windows and doors, and physical security for computers.

Forthcoming editions will examine security walls and roofs, as well as jewellery and document protection.
