If you were a famous building, which building would you be? An intriguing — alright, daft — question posed by fit-out specialists Overbury in their 'building game' test, to be found on: www.overbury.com. Facilities managers, we are told, 'could potentially fit the profile of the new Greater London Authority Headquarters,' says Steve Elliott, Overbury MD. 'Like the building they like to be ahead of their time and the beating heart of a busy metropolis!' he gushes. Spot on, we couldn't agree more.
But what of Diary? Is it to be Fleet Street's Wig and Pen club, once the monument to the noble profession of the scribe? Or perhaps the more modern All Bar One. We're not fussy. But no! Diary is the London Ark — 'something of an out-of-towner, you nonetheless cut quite a dash. Slightly out at sea, your daring and truly unique status among those around you ensure that you are seen as a true individual.' Still, it could have been worse. It could have been the erotic Gherkin.
Crisis over
Once again to the wonderful world of press releases — and this time to the UK Water Group which tells us that it has just installed 37 of its WaterStar dispensers at St Richards Hospital in Chichester. David Betts, assistant director of estates explains that up until a couple of years ago, individual departments had made their own arrangements regarding the supply of drinking water, with the result that there were bottled water coolers everywhere.... 'Things,' he says rather ominously 'had got a little out of hand.' We know what you mean David.
Bog standards
Diary would hate anyone to think that it doesn't take the facilities management challenges of the restroom seriously. Which is why you won't hear even a suppressed giggle over the choice of theme for the World Toilet Summit 2001 scheduled to be held in Singapore last month: 'Our toilets — the past, the present and the future.' We would also like to point out that the Singapore government pronounced clean public toilets to be the 'hallmark of a gracious society'. Absolutely.
