The end of volunteering?

As a housing association resident who is also on its board as a resident representative, I write to express disquiet about proposed payment to board members.

Is this not the thin end of the wedge? Will not all board members everywhere then start wanting remuneration for services which have hitherto been offered through dedication, commitment, philanthropy and good will?

As a resident, I am also extremely concerned about where the money is coming from to pay us board members. Come on now, come clean: it will come from our rents, won't it? And that means higher rents still, on top of the recent rent restructuring.
