As someone who has worked in antisocial behaviour for a number of years I have to agree with Tony Soares’ comments (11 March, page 27).
It seems once again the government has decided on a quick-fix solution and misled the public into believing we, in housing, now have this magic wand to wave that can banish antisocial behaviour. Only the other day I was talking about what the public reaction will be when they realise how much of their taxes goes towards paying for it. And, as Soares said, I’m sure we would all like to know what’s happening to the tax money we already pay for policing the community – exacty where is the government putting it?
As Soares says, it’s certainly are no proper provisions for young people.
I would also like to add that a number of people need to learn tolerance. In recent months I’ve had a owner-occupier request that an antisocial behaviour order be taken out on her neighbour to prevent her from using garlic and spices in her cooking!
Please don’t think this is a one-off, because while there is serious bad behaviour going on, an equal amount of time is being wasted on dealing with petty spitefulness perpetrated by intolerant and jealous residents against each other.
