And he's right. In this day and age, it's imperative that security companies and in-house teams understand exactly how the Data Protection Act fits in with human rights, freedom of information and a plethora of related legislation specific to the sector. Thankfully, Cantrill's outfit has come up with an innovative training package to help managers and officers alike do just that.
Module-based learning
Accredited by The Law Society and capable of being tailored to suit client requirements, InfoEase is an interactive CD-Rom-based training package that will provide full certification for end users to prove the successful completion of each module.
These modules range from a basic knowledge through to a level of understanding of the Data Protection Act that would be required by senior personnel directors.
Importantly, any security company that might face proceedings under the Act will be able to use InfoEase certification as evidence of their commitment to ensuring that employees are up to speed with the legislation.
With demand for its training up by 150%, NetConnect (the Internet security company) has launched an all-new portfolio of courses featuring the latest products developed by Baltimore Technologies, nCipher, CheckPoint Software Technologies, Intrusion.com, F-Secure and more.
Many of these courses are now being made available to security managers and officers in the UK for the first time.
Martin Hall, one of NetConnect's training managers, told SMT: "Many blue chip organisations have been experimenting with ambitious e-commerce applications. Over the last year alone we've seen these become mainstream, and more and more people within security and IT departments now need to know how they might successfully integrate and maintain their IT security systems."
Many of the new courses – in particular the nCipher PKI training – have been delivered in-house to satisfy end user demand, but levels of demand have since made this route to learning an impractical one. As such, NetConnect now boasts three training centres – in London, Cambridge and Edinburgh – for teaching purposes, with class sizes being limited to six pupils per session.
Detail of each course
What of the classes themselves? Intrusion.com is really an introduction to PDS, itself an innovative perimeter defence system that provides a cost-effective way of ensuring secure e-business connections.
The F-Secure course, meanwhile, looks at the management of the F-Secure Anti-Virus that guards both site-based and mobile security personnel against malicious codes.
nCipher's hardware-based products help e-business end users reduce security risks while establishing user confidence in their on-line services. Applications include e-commerce, secure content management and the roll-out of corporate Public Key Infrastructures.
Security managers finding that comprehensive IT security solutions are becoming hard to manage, scale and integrate will be interested in learning about Firewall 1. This Internet security, VPN and management solution from CheckPoint is said to deliver "unparalleled reliability and performance".
Another useful skill for security managers comes with being able to implement and operate directory management systems. One such – Calendra's Directory Manager – is an intuitive user interface based on Internet standards. Training on this course will allow security managers easy and efficient access to all resources stored in their company's directories. A must.
