The Madrid Xanadu situated in the Arroyomolinos, Spain is due for completion in Spring 2003 and will contain around 130 000 m2 of retail and entertainment space with 200 speciality retailers and 18 anchor stores. The development consists of a tent structure covering the common area leading to entertainment and leisure facilities including cinemas, bowling and skate park, and Spain's first indoor ski facility. Services engineers on the project are Roberts & Partners, who previously worked on the Bluewater development in Kent. All engineering services have had to be incorporated within the structure in such a way as to avoid any detraction from the internal aesthetics and maintain a light and airy feel. Architects on the project are Chapman Taylor; structural engineers are local firm OTEP.
