Modern Security Solutions has released the Afiant Express, a network DVR specifically designed to enhance the value of security provided by mini network cameras.

Sprite evolves
Dedicated Micros is has unveiled a new look and enhanced performance capabilities for its Digital Sprite 2 professional DVR range.

The DS2 range now features ‘NetVu Connected’ compatibility as standard, bringing it into line with DM’s DV-IP products, including MPEG-4 support for effective network operation in low bandwidth environments, dial out on alarm, variable record rate per camera and a maximum overall recording capability of 100 pictures per second.

The DS2 range is available in several variants – the advanced DS2 Plus, the DS2 CD with in-built writer, and the DS2 RS for enhanced capability in retail environments.

Maximum storage
The VR-616E DVR records high quality images at a speed of 50 frames per second in Wavelet compression, which produce relatively small file sizes for maximum storage.

It features an inbuilt 240GB hard disk drive. A jog/shuttle function enables the unit to easily locate events and facilities and the unit is also equipped with digital audio recording, playback, digital zoom functionality, infrared (IR) remote controller and the ability to export images to a removable media device. Still images can be captured and stored via USB.

Vicon upgrade
Vicon’s upgraded Kollector Pro and Elite 16 channel DVRs now offer added value with the inclusion of a four-output analogue matrix which provides the option to switch local video through to conventional composite monitors.

Control room operators can now observe live full screen analogue video in addition to multi-screen digital VGA display.

Vicon’s Network Video recorder, the VN5000, can store up to 1.6TB of video, which can be expanded up to 8TB with external RAID devices. It is supplied complete with the full ViconNet software suite for viewing, recording and controlling any IP video device or DVR on the network.

NVR for Axis
Axis Communications has launched its first Network Video Recorder, the Axis 262 NVR.

It supports up to eight Axis network cameras, or via Axis video servers, up to eight analogue cameras. Axis says it is ideal for small to medium-sized and multi-site businesses where bandwidth across a WAN is limited. Likely markets include franchise retail businesses, service stations, hotels and office networks.

Live viewing of all the cameras as well as play-back of recorded data can be accessed via the integrated web-based server. The AXIS 262 NVR will also allow data from its built-in 160 GB Hard Disk Drive to be extracted to any local PC in order to save images to removable media such as CD-R/RW or DVD media.

Nextiva generation
Verint Systems has launched Nextiva, its next-generation video management and analytics platform that “transforms video into actionable intelligence”.

It is a robust platform and suite of software applications built on a standards-based open architecture, engineered for scalability, rapid deployment, and ease of use in IP network environments. Nextiva captures video, audio and data from a wide variety of devices transmitted over wireline and wireless networks.

Discover VisioWave
VisioWave’s new product range is the Discovery 2400 Series. The company says the Discovery products are “integrated, easy to deploy and cost effective… offering an unequalled price performance ratio for video switching, video recording and video content analysis”. Available in different versions, the Discovery 2400 series can combine high video switching of up to 24 video ports, high capacity embedded secured video recording and intelligent video content analysis on all ports with VisioWave or ISA Partners’ applications.

Small and wireless
StarNex has introduced what it says is the smallest, wireless mobile covert DVR in the world.

The Self-Guard DVR allows operator to monitor audio and video data from remote areas, using Bluetooth wireless transmission technology. Smaller than a cigarette packet, the DVR can be used with a button or pen camera concealed on an operative.

Compact Linearis
Linearis LE is the new, compact, integrated digital video management system from Cieffe.

It is capable of handling six or 12 unsynchronised cameras with bi-directional audio, and features motion detection, and is accessible by LAN/WAN/xDSL/ISDN/internet.

Three year warranty
ClearView Communications has launched the Web CCTV-3 – a digital video recorder with three-years on-site warranty as standard. The DVR accepts 16 fixed or movable IP-camera inputs with unlimited network viewing and pan/tilt/zoom control via web browser.

Choice of recording formats includes JPEG2000 and MPEG-4. Recordings can be downloaded onto an in-built CD burner and replayed on any PC with Windows Media Player.

Host of launches
Siemens Building Technologies has released new products in its Sistore range – the AX, CX4 and MX.

Sistore AX digital recorders are offered in three versions, for use with four, nine or 16 cameras. Siemens says its simple user interface, which includes remote-access software, “virtually eliminates the need for user training”.

All models in the AX range provide a choice of time or event driven operation and, as standard, full LAN/xDSL/ISDN connectivity and PTZ camera control.

The AX DVRs are a convenient one-box solution for standard applications such as post offices, petrol stations and other retail outlets.

New joint GUI
Vista has announced the development of a new graphical user interface for the Triplex Columbus DVR. The new product will be designed jointly with BPT, utilising the resources of Impro Technologies of South Africa.

Mark Pritchard, Vista divisional director, says: “the new Vista GUI will be extremely simple to install and use. A virtual matrix, the new GUI will give security operatives point and click access to any Triplex camera, PowerDome, or Impro access control unit on a network based on a graphical representation of the premises rather than detailed knowledge of the system configuration itself.”

Baxall gets Vivid
New from UK CCTV manufacturer Baxall Ltd, the Vivid range of Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) has been designed to take full advantage of the new JPEG2000 compression technology to give better picture quality at lower storage rates.

Baxall claims Vivid improves on picture quality with sharper images, and says it can actually reduce drive sizes by 30%.

The company claims Vivid DVRs are extremely easy to install. Vivid comes with a 31 day automatic recording set up feature, meaning installers can quite literally plug it in and leave it to operate. If more specific configuration is required, then a standard PC keyboard can

be used to program things such as camera titles. A USB memory stick can also be plugged into a Baxall Vivid unit to quickly download settings from one unit to another to save time and reduce the possibility of configuration error.

Eco9 released
Dedicated Micros is launching Eco9, a nine-channel variant of its Eco family of DVRs. Gardiner Security has signed an exclusive agreement to promote and distribute the Eco9 across the UK and mainland Europe.

DM says the Eco9 is priced to compete with traditional VCR/multiplexer combinations, and targeted at small, often independent business owners moving from tape recording. The Eco9 has been designed with ease of use in mind, having been configured to time-lapse record straight out of the box by automatically detecting connected cameras on power-up.

Compact range
Mitsubishi Electric says its range of DX recorders are “compact, robust and fully featured”, and “designed to suit a whole host of applications”. All have built-in motion detection, full duplex operation, networking functionality and a new 24-month, return to base warranty.

The newest model is the DX-TL5000E, which is a 16 channel recorder that utilises the latest JPEG2000 technology.

Videoswitch says its Vi range of DVRs “has been built to deliver even greater ease of use and performance” than their predecessors.There are currently five families of DVR in the Vi series, targeted at different market sectors. The Vi100 Mini and Vi200 Compact are available with a choice of four or nine camera inputs. Both are for smaller installations.

The Vi400 slimline can record up to 16 cameras, while the Vi600 Trident offers nine or 16 cameras and three hard drive storage array. The Vi800 Sextant offers six drive storage array and 16 or 32 camera inputs.

Tracer improved
Europlex Technologies says the latest upgrades to its popular Tracer Lite DVR now deliver advanced capabilities at a mid-market price.

Improved features include the ability to run up to three different types of monitor from a single unit and to display true, live pictures (not digitised live) from up to 100 cameras simultaneously.

The new model can also process and display live images from up to 50 remote locations – such as retail outlets – at the same time.

For installation and maintenance the new Tracer Lite upgrades offer valuable advantages too. A user-friendly menu has been developed and is never more than one click away wherever the engineer is on the system.

Tracer Lite has the flexibility to be used as a feature-rich, stand-alone DVR or it can be fully integrated and managed as part of a suite of up to 100 DVRS using the Tracer Enterprise system.

Bosch family expands
Bosch’s has two new versions of its DVR1 family available, which it says are suitable for small businesses including shops, forecourts, hotels, leisure and domestic premises.

The new DVR1A offers a hard disk capacity of 80 GB. This allows continuous or time-lapse recording for up to a week or even longer with full alarm and pre-alarm recording capability allowing users to see events leading up to the alarm.

The DVR1C provides several enhancements including a higher capacity 160GB hard disk, plus a network facility that allows remote viewing using a standard web browser across a Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) or via the Internet.

DVTel has teamed up with Axis to fully integrate its Latitude Network Video Management System with Axis’ new generation of network cameras and video servers. The Latitude NVMS is a software-based enterprise-level video, audio and data management system which offers a single GUI with monitoring, recording, and analysis functionality, delivering accurate information for response to security threats.

Small and discrete
MEL Secure Systems has launched a new mini DVR which provides up to 80 hours of recording in a compact, highly resilient package, aimed at meeting a diverse range of security, surveillance and video recording applications.

The pocket-sized recorder uses an 80Gb hard drive to provide up to 80 hours of continuous real-time video and audio recording and playback at 720x576 pixel resolution, or up to 2000 hours at 1 frame per second. MEL says it can deliver evidential quality recordings, and has been used by police forces throughout the UK.

Region-specific DVR
Sony has launched its HSR-J2009 and HSR-J2016 DVRs, featuring a built-in nine or 16 channel multiplexer function.

The models, which have an analogue/digital conversion capability, support a Region of Interest function, which Sony says improves the image quality of a set area upon movement detection. It allows the specified areas to be viewed and recorded in clear, high quality, while the rest of the image will be in lower quality, enabling sufficient images to be recorded with a small data size.

Marching into UK
March Networks has launched its suite of purpose-built digital video recorders and network management and application software in the UK.

“Proprietary software allows both the company and its end-users to perform remote system management and diagnostics to maintain and upgrade video surveillance systems from a central location,” the company says. The new products include a range of four, eight and 16 camera DVR systems and software.

DVR is an Aasset
The latest network-ready DVR from Samsung Electronics, and available exclusively in the UK from Aasset Security – is the SHR-2162P. It features an integral CD writer and four channels of audio recording.

The SHR-2162P is a 16-channel model which can be used both as a stand-alone DVR or can easily be linked into an integrated network. With MPEG 4 recording, it delivers high resolution video with 100 images per second recording capability.

Easy as CBC
CBC (Europe) has three new DVRs available. The C-DHM08P is an eight channel mobile DVR, designed for intelligent vehicle surveillance ideal for complicated transport installations in coaches, buses and trains, etc.

The IDIP8-160-XL is an eight channel video management system, using MPEG-4 format, with up to 800 fields per second. The ZR-DH182P is a single channel high performance DVR designed specifically for gaming applications such as casinos.

Blancom debut
Croatian firm Blancom has launched its Provectus DVR BL-5000AS Series in the UK.

The Linux-based system can handle a maximum of 16 video and 16 audio channels per server configuration. Synectics says its Modular Digital Recording System solutions offer excellent picture quality, image security and evidential value.

DVD write-on
Visimetrics has added a DVD-writing capability to its Fastar DVR – and has further plans to add DVD writing to other products across its range if this initial move proves successful. The primary aim of the move was to be able to provide police forces with cost-effective digital CCTV images.

“Transferring digitally recorded video data to a CD and DVD has long been a standard feature for many DVRs, but the transfer of images to a standard VHS tape has been a necessity for court use. Visimetrics have now advanced beyond this, by offering an easily transferable, low cost format that everyone can use, just like tape, only better,” the company says.

Panasonic introductions
Panasonic has introduced two new Hard Disk Recorders to its line-up: the WJ-HD309A and the WJ-HD316A. The WJ-HD309A has nine camera inputs and the WJ-HD316A has 16 camera inputs. Both models are available configured with one or two 250GB hard drives.

In addition, four WJ-HD300A series DVRs can be interlinked to provide a total system capacity of 64 channels.

For additional storage the WJ-HD300A series provides an expansion bay for four hard drives, and a total of six of these bays can be connected to the main unit.

It also features the ability to control pan/tilt/zoom functions via a standard web browser.
