The toaster thingy you see here is actually Will Alsop’s idea for a theatre, just one part of a £500m masterplan for a regeneration of Middlesbrough, which includes a hotel shaped like an upturned wine bottle and apartments like Prada skirts. Bearing in mind what happened to Alsop’s plan for the amorphous blob beside Liverpool’s Three Graces, we can only hope Middlesbrough doesn’t get burnt.
