Galactic goings-on at the Grosvenor saw Darth Vadar and friends mixing with magic and illusion as the Building Services Awards winners celebrated in style.
The waiting over, on 27 June over 1000 of the top industry figures were transported to a galaxy far, far away to celebrate the 2005 Building Services Awards. London’s Grosvenor House Hotel welcomed contractors and consultants alongside guests from further afield like Chewbacca and Darth Vadar for an evening of magic and merriment.
A spectacular laser display signalled the start of show and the entrance of magician and comedian Paul Zenon. He entertained the audience with a series of gags and illusions with the OPDM’s Building Regulations guru Ted King gamely assisting in the on-stage trickery.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the 18 awards winners. Southern Electric Contracting won the Major M&E Contractor of the Year category for the third time running, and a double celebration was in order for the firm when employee Douglas Orrell was judged winner of the Apprentice of the Year award.
Smoke Control Services scooped the contractor prize for the smaller firms, while Haden Young was presented with the Health & Safety award and NG Bailey topped the training category. The final award saw Ted King returning to the stage for another star turn – receiving the Engineers Taking The Lead award.
