Lighting Industry Federation Outstanding Student of the Year Award

David Round of Thorn Lighting has been awarded the Lighting Industry Federation (LIF) Outstanding Student of the Year 2009. The awards recognise the most outstanding student on the LIF Certificate course.

The course provides education in lighting on a national level for people involved in the maintenance, sale and specification of lighting equipment. David, a project engineer, was one of three finalists who had to deliver a presentation on lighting design to a judging panel.

Andrew Morris-Richardson, finance director for sponsor Abacus Lighting, said: “David’s knowledge and understanding shone through in his presentation. He managed to incorporate daylight controls to produce energy efficient lighting for a broad range of tasks, each requiring a variety of lighting levels.”

Round, from Spennymoor, County Durham, commented: “I’m thrilled to be chosen as the winner. The LIF course has really helped me appreciate optical design and has given me a better understanding of photometric data which is really useful in my day to day work.”

Round was presented with a £500 cheque and commemorative trophy. The runners up were Ryan Addis of Dexeco Solutions and Colin Walker of Cooper Lighting and Safety. Both received a £250 cheque for their presentation entry.
