Access reader manufacturer Third Millennium has teamed up with Texas Instruments (RFID specialists) and technology provider TSSI to bring cost-effective biometric solutions to access control manufacturers.
This joint approach has allowed Third Millennium to combine the high security of TSSI's award-winning Verid+ fingerprint verification technology with the latest generation of 13.56 MHz contactless ISO smart proximity cards from TI, all in a new compact integrated reader.

Users simply present a card and then their finger. Their contactless credential is automatically identified within one second.

Combining contactless RFID with a biometric technology has many advantages. Fingerprint information is held on the card and may be encrypted for security. It does not need to be stored in the reader or on a network, making systems less complex and easier to install.

The readers provide industry-standard outputs for interfacing to a wide variety of access control equipment. The proximity cards are based on TI's Tag-It technology and are compatible with the new ISO15693 standard for card interoperability.

Peter Jones, managing director of Third Millennium, said: "TI's RFID cards provide both the capacity and the performance essential to an advanced biometric solution."

TI-RFID's UK sales manager David Hyslop added: "After evaluating various solutions we chose the product which was the most convenient and cost-effective."
