Landlord will offer a range of fully-trained and badged temporary staff to tenants.
The management team at London landmark Tower 42 is to bring a facilities recruitment company on-site to vet, train and supply temporary support staff to tenants.

Tower Personnel Services, a subsidiary of Facilities Recruitment, will be launched at the former NatWest building now owned by Greycoat Estates, Hermes and Merrill Lynch, next month.

The move is part of the ongoing development of services for tenants at the site which has earned a special reputation for its hotel-style customer service approach.

General manager at Tower 42, Terry Welsh, said the temporary workers will wear Tower 42 uniforms and will receive induction courses specific to the building and to the tenant hiring them. Trained staff — familiar with office culture — can be drafted into a tenant's office at a moment's notice.

'It's very much in keeping with what we do. We want to make the lives of our customers easier,' said Welsh, who revealed other new customer services will include an e-procurement system and a Tower 42 credit card.

Temporary staff from receptionists to space planners will be available to tenants via the new company, which will have a pool of staff on site.

Tower Personnel Services itself will have a team of four located at Tower 42, the tallest building in the City.

Whereas some major corporates have outsourced general recruitment services, this is first time a landlord has contracted a facilities recruitment company to provide support staff for tenants.

John Davis, director of Facilities Recruitment, said part of the service would be to carry out reference and security checks on the temporary workers.

'On any given day, there are 300 temporary staff at the tower. In today's climate of heightened security, any organisation at risk has to think about the way it handles temporary staff.'

Davis, who said it was too early to judge the size and scope of the Tower 42 contract, revealed he was in negotiation with other in-house facilities management teams to provide a similar service.

Tenants at Tower 42 include Royal & Sunalliance, Swiss Re Life and Health, Buchanan Ingersoll, Cisco and Regus.
