The government-backed Trustmark scheme has been formally launched to the public by consumer protection groups and construction industry trade bodies.
It aims to stamp out the £1.5 billion cowboy trader problem in the home improvement sector with use of a single, recognisable logo.
Trustmark has the commitment of over 25 trade organisations and estimates that over 14 000 firms will be signed up by mid-2006.
Trustmark chair Ian Livsey said: "We know from our research that the range of accreditations and trade association logos can be baffling. Trustmark is a single logo to look out for...and it engenders trust because it is backed by government-endorsed standards."
