Tyred out: Thurrock, in the Thames Gateway, was the subject of a symposium of international architects, environmentalists and writers charged with coming up with a “visionary brief” for the designated growth area.

The group included architects Harry Gugger of Herzog & de Meuron and Lord Richard Rogers and hoped to reflect the character and culture of the area.
