A recent survey by Automatic Environmental Controls (AEC) has found that a large number of UK businesses have little understanding of their own energy policies
Results showed that while 45 out of the 50 facilities managers questioned said they had an energy policy, when asked to provide details as to how their policy reduced energy bills, they had no concrete answers.

This suggests that such policies exist only in name. Out of the 90% who had energy policies, 44% did not know how much their energy bills were, and only 6% monitored energy consumption.

Heating systems are identified as the worst culprit for energy waste, but only 4% of respondents said they cut their bills by adjusting their heating and boiler systems. AEC director Julian Miller says: "A majority of buildings could reduce heating bills by 20% by getting their systems under control. If companies incorporated a heating policy into their energy policy the savings that could be reaped through preventive measures would be significant and sustainable."
