The restrictions on funding for uk exporters have threatened to hamper the opportunities for security companies to attend overseas events and promote their products and services to markets worldwide.
Irrespective of these changes, the British Security Industry Association is determined to offer its members – and other companies within the industry – the opportunity to exhibit at Intersec (one of the many overseas security exhibitions scheduled during 2006) by taking a stand within the dedicated UK Pavilion.
Intersec 2006: Dubai
The final event under the current funding arrangements is Intersec 2006. The show takes place in Dubai, which is of course part of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE offers the UK security industry a wealth of opportunity in terms of trade. UK exports to the UAE in 2003 alone totalled £2,080 million, with all trade focused on Dubai.
The UAE Embassy recently explained the country’s great need for security products, commenting: “Dubai’s construction boom has led to an increased demand for security-related products and services. In addition, political issues have created a need to increase and upgrade border control technology. The sector’s rapid growth has forced the authorities to regulate it: all security companies wishing to set up in the UAE must now register with the Private Security Business Section in the UAE Ministry of the Interior.”
The BSIA-organised UK Pavilion at Intersec 2005 in Dubai played host to the Association’s biggest ever presence at an international trade show, with 45 UK security companies exhibiting. This month’s UK Pavilion at Intersec 2006 will be even larger in scale, with 59 UK concerns in attendance. Ultimately, the show provides a valuable opportunity for exporters to showcase their products to the foremost buyers from right across the Middle East.
New horizons, new funding
The new funding arrangements will commence on 1 April 2006. With the BSIA fully determined to offer UK security exporters the opportunity to attend overseas exhibitions as part of a UK Pavilion, the scheduled events for 2006 are:
