Claude Lyons is guaranteeing voltage levels at London Underground stations during system improvements.
Hertfordshire firm Claude Lyons is ensuring stable voltage levels at London Underground stations while extensive improvements are being made.
Tube Lines, responsible for the maintenance and renewal of the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines tasked principal contractor Emcor with ensuring a stable supply of electricity in all stations during the works.
Tube Lines is investing £559 million in modernisations over the first seven years of its contract with LU. Many of the changes will increase demands on the electricity supply. Mains power is supplied from a transformer feed to designated stations then distributed through the network – it is the supply to the most distant stations where voltage drops may occur.
Emcor selected the Claude Lyons equipment after a successful installation in Hong Kong where a similar voltage supply problem existed. This is the first time the equipment has been used on the LU.
The stations were surveyed to find current voltage levels and the remedy needed. Claude Lyons then identified the equipment specifications and designed the system to meet current and future needs.
