Union rally demands industry to use directly employed workers covered by national agreements.

Unite has organised a rally with the aim of securing stronger employment protection for those within the construction industry and to ensure all workers are covered by UK national agreements.

The Union believes national agreements are currently being undermined by the use of agencies. According to Unite, employers are not respecting the agreements, which were designed to provide a level playing field for all construction workers and guaranteed minimum standards on pay, skills, health, safety and welfare.

Unite wants a shop steward for each trade on every site along with union safety reps to improve the industry’s health and safety record.

The respect in construction rally will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday 2 January 2008, beginning at Whitworth Park in Manchester.
