Some of the most prominent clients in the country have come together to form a forum to rout unsafe contractors from their projects.
The Retail Construction Benchmarking Forum is a client body that includes ASDA, Dixons, Safeway, Consignia, Nationwide, Arcadia, WH Smith, Somerfield, B&Q and J Sainsbury. It will set tough health and safety targets that contractors must comply with or they will be axed from the tender lists of all forum members.

The forum will assess the competence of contractors by examining their compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and general health and safety conduct.

The forum will look at the safety procedures that each member has in place before setting common targets for the group.
