For those who hold a previous issue of this splendid book it’s time to update, for those who have yet to see this publication — buy a copy soon!
The preceding edition of this eminent book was last published in 1994, consequently this new revision has been both necessary and substantial. For instance, this edition takes account of the new police caution, the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997, the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996, bringing the book bang up-to-date.
Of the new material included with this issue, notable are the sections upon: ‘Personal Safety Strategies’, which discusses and advises upon the potential for violence in the workplace; the updated chapter on ‘Fire Precautions’, which benefits from a revision by a fire safety professional; and a revised and clarified section about ‘Questioning and Taking Statements’.
Although this book is compact in size the amount of useful and relevant material it contains is far greater than many books bigger in volume and expense. The particular and unique strength of this book is that, despite its concise nature, there is full coverage of the essential facts and data as required by an operational security employee.
This would make an ideal supplement to the training and instruction of Security Officers. It provides a useful framework, for instructors and trainers, to use when planning and performing their security officer education programme. Personally, I would suggest that security professionals (at all levels) would find this book a valuable ‘aid memoir’ to have too hand in the office and an essential item to be carried in a briefcase when in transit.
