Councillors were asked to approve the proposals on Wednesday, after Housing Today went to press.
Kevin Dodd, Wakefield council’s head of housing, said: “We have been advised that there is simply not enough money available through the private finance initiative or setting up an arm’s-length management organisation to fund what we must spend to meet the decent homes standard.
“Only through an independent housing trust would we be able to do this.”
