Councillors in wakefield discussed a possible stock transfer this week.
The transfer of 36,000 homes to an independent trust would be a bid to secure the £250m Wakefield needs to meet the decent homes standard.

Councillors were asked to approve the proposals on Wednesday, after Housing Today went to press.

Kevin Dodd, Wakefield council’s head of housing, said: “We have been advised that there is simply not enough money available through the private finance initiative or setting up an arm’s-length management organisation to fund what we must spend to meet the decent homes standard.

“Only through an independent housing trust would we be able to do this.”
