Digital CCTV
Neurodynamics’ Witness digital video recorders (DVRs) have been installed as part of a £92,000 upgrade to the CCTV facilities at The Grange Shopping Centre in Birkenhead, which boasts 120 retail outlets (its anchor stores being Marks & Spencer, Dixons, Littlewoods and Argos).
The recorders offer 1.8 tera-bytes of hard disk memory which stores images from 44 cameras on site (including Pelco’s popular Spectra III domes).
The Witness systems – installed by Bath-based consultant Be Prepared in conjunction with Tasc Digital Control Systems (Europe) – allow independent recording at any image update rate, from slow time-lapse to full frame rate on every camera in an installation.
In operation, the camera system uses unshielded twisted pair cabling and NVT transmitters to send the images to the Centre’s dedicated Control Room. There’s an additional replay facility outside of the Control Room for reviewing incidents and downloading evidence onto hard copy, floppy disk, VHS video or CD-Rom.
