Welsh Water has made savings of over £300 000 using Amtech software.
Project manager Hyder Consulting used the Windows-based PowerNet HV software to predict the short-circuit performance of the new Cardiff wastewater treatment works.
From the results of these analyses it was calculated that specially-designed transformers were needed to reduce the fault levels to 50 kA. Although this addition meant minor extra costs, overall the transformers created £300 000 of savings on the distribution equipment as custom-designed switchboards were no longer required.
