ICON – "the big inspectorate for the smaller installer" has issued a press release to trade magazines ending "speculation" about its acceptability.
The press release from the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) says: "For some reason there has been speculation in some quarters regarding the acceptability of the ICON inspection service from NSI. Questions have been asked regarding insurance approval and even acceptability by the police.

"NSI is pleased to confirm that such concerns are unfounded."

In reference to acceptability under the ACPO Policy, It quotes Andrew Trotter, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, as saying: "After careful consideration … the Association of Chief Police Officers will recognise the ICON scheme for the issue of unique reference numbers".

It also quotes Richard Sheikh, MD of insurance broker Camberford Law who "… welcome the launch of the ICON scheme". ICON, says the press release, "has attracted the interest of hundreds of installers across the UK. Many are now in the process of obtaining ICON approval. People are voting with their feet to dispel any speculation there may have been."
