The FB's web-watcher surfs project management websites
Projects are created at all levels of an organisation, involving anything from a single person to thousands of staff, from a single department to cross-organisational boundaries. It is no wonder that project management is a complex and largely misunderstood concept. Some of the following websites may shed light on the discipline's role in business.

Project Management Institute
www.pmi.org
Established in 1969 and based in the US, the Project Management Institute (PMI) is a global not-for-profit project management professional association, with nearly 80,000 members worldwide. The website includes definitions of project management, weblinks to project management associations around the world, an online bookstore, jobs and details of events. Part of the website is restricted to members only.

+ large amount of information, primarily from the US perspective.
+ good design and logical structure

ProjectNet
www.projectnet.co.uk

ProjectNet is a project management resource site maintained by the monthly Project Manager Today magazine, from the UK. Much of the news and information on the site is obtained from the magazine, hence it is generally about a month out-of-date.

– some of the information is dated
– design is dated and the structure is poor

Project Management Forum
www.pmforum.org

PM Forum's site inludes a calendar of events, Project Management World Today magazine full-text articles and news, a large database of suppliers, details of project management organisations world-wide and useful weblinks.

+ no registration required
+ huge amount of useful information
– structure and layout can be inconsistent and occasionally confusing
