Two welsh councils have been praised by the Department of Work and Pensions inspectorate for improving the way they tackle housing benefit fraud.
But there is still work to be done, the inspectorate said.

Swansea and Cardiff county councils were judged to have improved their services in a recent inspection.

Swansea was previously rated a poorly performing authority but was this time deemed “satisfactory”.

The inspection found Cardiff needed to improve counter-fraud work, while Swansea’s procedures for verifying documentary evidence to support benefit claims needed to be brought in line with nationally accepted standards.
