ABB Utilities Automation has completed a major upgrade of the Cardiff Barrage control system.
The scheme included the installation of a fibre optic Ethernet network that integrates 14 plcs and 1600 input/output devices within a Scada system. Fully automatic control of the sluice gates, which respond to tides and water levels in Cardiff Bay, is now possible.
