Installers - make your way to Sandown Park this month for a double whammy. Not only do we have the first of this year's Security Roadshows but, for the first time, we have co-located Firex South at the same site … two great reasons to reserve March 21 in your diary.
The Security Roadshows are now established as a great opportunity to find out about the latest industry developments, experience new products first-hand and discuss security solutions with the best security providers, all in the relaxed atmosphere of a one day event.
The first show of the year will take place at Sandown Park Exhibition Centre, Esher, Surrey on March 21 2006.
We have more than sixty exhibitors lined up who will be showing a wide range of CCTV, IP, access control and alarm products.
And making another essential reason to visit the show, we have a series of free seminars which will take place throughout the event, including:
FREE Information sessions on the new European Intruder Alarm Standards that came into effect on October 2005. Alex Carmichael, Technical Director of the BSIA will, once again, answer your queries on this and related changes in the industry at a Question and Answer session after each presentation.
FREE IP fundamentals presented in two seminars by Tavcom. These will focus on the increasingly popular applications of CCTV over IP networks. The first seminar will cover the fundamentals of IP networking and the second the issues around the bandwidth required by CCTV over IP.
FREE Legal advice from Graeme Dow, forensic burglary investigator and security advisor to SISS, the security industry specialist insurer. Graeme will give his personal advice on the legal implications of EN50131 series and tips to help installers through this unfamiliar jungle, pulling together the best advice from insurers, inspectorates and other stakeholders.
There's no need to register for these informal sessions, just make your way to the seminar area and take a seat …

Check out these new laws
An ever increasing number of security installers are getting into the potentially lucrative area of fire installation.
For those new to this sector and those companies who have traditionally provided this service, Firex is the best place to catch up on both the latest products and the latest legislation.
A significant piece of legislation - the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order - is on its way and Firex South 2006 is the venue to find out more about it.
The Government announced in January that it is giving more time to businesses and enforcers to adequately familiarise themselves with the new regime and to coincide its timing as closely as possible with the reform of fire safety laws in Scotland. The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has put back the coming into force of the new fire safety law to allow this to happen. The question is will you be ready?
Co-located with the Security Roadshow for the first time, Firex South, the regional industry event aimed at the interests of fire safety professionals, will turn the spotlight on the RRO in a series of free seminars open to all visitors.
Implications for you
Representatives from BAFE, St John Ambulance and the LPCB will discuss the processes of implementing the new regulations and the implications the Order will have for the building owner, consultant and installer.
St John Ambulance train more than half a million people annually in Health & Safety and First Aid at over 200 centres nationally. Details of its new Fire Marshal Course will be available from Stand E24, and training officer Clive James will be presenting a seminar with a Q&A.
The LPCB will be on stand D4, and has a wide-ranging agenda for its seminar sessions, covering everything from training and publications to new loss prevention standards and extension of installer codes. In particular, it will be covering a new approval scheme that will assess the assessors, which was launched at the end of the 2005.
False alarm problem
BAFE, exhibiting on Stand C20, will be focusing on the importance of third party certification and the role that the various schemes adopted by BAFE can play in that process. The need for third party certification has never been greater, a point acknowledged in the Guidance Notes to the new Order. Other educational highlights include presentations from The Fire Beam Company and BT redcare.
The Fire Beam Company will be presenting their seminar entitled 'Reducing the Incidence of False Alarms in Apparatus'. When the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister published the fire statistics for the last quarter of 2004, it revealed nearly 500,000 false alarms. Although this was an overall reduction of 5 per cent over the previous period, false alarms due to apparatus increased by 2 per cent.
The introduction of new motorised self alignment technology in optical beam smoke detection will reduce the incidence of false alarms in apparatus. The Fire Beam Company will demonstrate its products at stand A16.
Impact of IP
BT redcare will discuss the impact of IP on fire alarm signalling. In a world driven by the Internet and new technology, expectations of the systems and the delivery mechanisms around us increase as they become ever more interlinked.
Delivering secure robust systems that allow the fast reliable transmission of fire alarms or the remote diagnostics of fire systems is a challenge and one that should not be undertaken lightly, says Redcare.
Entry to Firex South is free and visitors can register on-line at www.fire-expo.co.uk, where the latest event information, news, and timetable for seminars are available. Attendees who pre-register will receive a free race day ticket on arrival.
