In a dangerous attempt to cut costs, scheming homeowners are hiring electricians and builders purely to imitate their work.

Watch and Learners, more aptly known as WALIes, threaten livelihoods as well as compromising their own safety in their attempts to avoid future call-outs.

An ECA study revealed that one in ten adults has attempted a job usually reserved for tradesmen after stealing their skills.

David Pollock, ECA director, says the findings come as no surprise: “Figures show we spend over 15 billion pounds on home maintenance every year.”
