Peter Wilson, in his letter in support of Bishop David Walker’s article on immigration control is guilty of some muddled thinking (11 March, page 26).
On the one hand he rightly criticises British expatriates for their unwillingness to learn the language of their new countries of residence; on the other he seems to find it arrogant that British people may expect immigrants to the UK to learn English.
Either way, the British are damned for being cultural imperialists. Surely it is better that immigrants engage fully with host communities in all circumstances.
