A homeowner who refused an Asian council worker entry to her flat has been fined £200 plus £150 costs.
Abdulkhaliq Dhalech, a private sector housing worker for Cheltenham council, tried to visit Wendy Middleton's flat to check building work but she would not let him in. Dhalech returned to the Evesham Road flat with manager Mark Nelson on July 3 last year.

Middleton, 66, said she would not let Dhalech in because he was black, the court heard. She asked whether he had a doctor's certificate proving he had not got tuberculosis, because he had told her he had once been to Mecca. When he said that he did not, Middleton told him he would have to wear a mask to enter the house.

She relented when presented with a notice of intention to enter.

Middleton pleaded not guilty to racially aggravated behaviour likely to cause harassment, trauma or distress.

She denied being racist and said she once had an Arab lodger.
