The government has pledged an extra £22.5m to fund 300 more street wardens in 10 crime hotspots across England.
The wardens were introduced as part of the national strategy for neighbourhood renewal. This announcement takes the total number to 1050.

The new allocation will concentrate, where possible, on expanding existing schemes.

Bradford, Salford, Birmingham, Oxford, Leeds and Hackney and Lewisham in London will get more wardens. Regional government offices will work with the police to identify other areas for more wardens in London, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Liverpool, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Thames Valley, Nottinghamshire, Avon and Somerset and the West Midlands.
