Pitman, 39, is managing director of Henderson Green Consulting Engineers

What has been the hardest challenge you have faced to get to where you are now?

Being patient, having to control my enthusiasm and direct it.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

Making a difference, whatever it is.

Where do you see the construction industry going in the next year, three years and decade?

The next year will be all about continued survival with positioning the organisation ready for the next three years. The next three years: an increase in the industry’s awareness to building true low energy buildings - fundamental ground up sustainable buildings not just LZC bolt-on bits! The next 10 years: a reduction in commercial offices due to increased remote technologies, the development of the true home offices … who really knows.

What has been your career high point so far?

Being a fundamental part in a great organisation and having been involved in some really challenging and rewarding construction schemes.

And the low point?

Making people redundant

Who is your hero?

Those with little but who give so much to others, carers, nurses, foster families etc etc

If you could take one thing with you to a desert island, what would it be?

Flip flops my feet can’t handle really hot sand!
