This year's AS and A-level results in technology and science have shown that female students are outperforming their male counterparts.
Results show that in A-level physics almost 70% of females attained A to C grades, compared to just over 60% for males. At AS level two-thirds of females gained A to C grades compared to 56% of males. Technology subjects showed a similar trend as 54% of females gained A to C grades at AS-level, compared to a poor 42% of males.

Figures also show that although the number of students taking science and technology has increased since the introduction of AS levels, there has been a big fall in numbers sitting traditional A-levels, together with a drop in grades. This month's news analysis (page 13) discusses the number of students enrolling on on engineering courses.
