  • 92.5% of telephone respondents, 89% of door-to-door respondents and mean of 93% of all respondents, said they were not aware of any publicity surrounding timber-frame.
  •
  • if this result is broken down by age, then it can be seen that only 13.4% of all respondents age 35+ were aware of any publicity, positive and negative and this is significant because those aged 35+ are most likely to remember the World in Action programme and the aftermath.
  • only 61.5% of respondents knew what method of construction was used in the building of their home.
  • Two questions asked by MORI for the Traditional Housing Bureau
    1. In most properties the external walls are made up of two halves. The outer layer is brick, the inner layer can be either concrete block, timber-frame or steel -frame, each with a plaster finish. The walls between rooms, eg bedrooms, can be either concrete block or lighter timber stud partition. Which of these types of construction would you prefer if you were to buy a newly-built property?
Brick outer walls Concrete block for the inner leaf and for the walls between rooms 52%
Brick outer walls Timber stud frame for the inner leaf and timber stud partitions for the walls between rooms 15%
Brick outer walls Steel stud frame for the inner leaf and steel stud partitions for the walls between rooms 5%
    No preference 13%
    Don’t know 15%
    2. And which of these types of property do you think would give you...

...the most comfortable house in terms of temperature 43 33
...the house which is most easy to extend 38 35
    ...the quietest house 62 15
...the best price when you come to sell 52 12
