The British Combustion Equipment Manufacturers Association (BCEMA) has launched a log book scheme for members' equipment.
The scheme will track plant such as boilers through its useful life from installation. The idea of the scheme is based on car log books introduced by motor manufacturers as a method of tracking maintainance of their products.

Boilers and related equipment from the members of BCEMA will carry a certificate which can be filled in once it is installed, and added to with each phase of maintainance.

The aim is to ensure that maintainance is of a suitable standard, and that equipment is kept running efficiently.

The benefits are for both the manufacturers, who see the log book scheme as an addition to the service they offer customers; as well as the users who can be assured that the equipment has been maintained correctly.

The scheme rolls out from September 2001.
