Catering and support services giant Sodexho has beaten more than 30 other contractors to scoop a multi-million-pound, fixed-price contract to provide a wide range of services to Wiltshire County Council.
The seven-year contract, worth an estimated £7m a year in turnover, involves cleaning and catering at the council's buildings — including Trowbridge County Hall, offices and public libraries, providing a meals on wheels service, maintaining the council's public grounds and catering in the county's 125 primary and secondary schools.
Previously the council ran all the services in house. This is the first time it has put the services out to tender.
Sodexho plans to introduce its EDzone concept into the secondary schools. This is where canteen serveries are divided into a number of zones to alleviate queuing for meals.
It also plans to analyse whether its recently developed smartcard payment system for school meals might work within Wiltshire.
