CHALK IT DOWN: The final chapter in the history of the notorious Chalkhill estate in Brent has begun with the demolition of the last six blocks.
New homes have been found for more than 1200 people while the work is carried out. Complete redevelopment of the area is due to finish at the end of next year.
When it was built in 1966 Chalkhill was considered an exemplar of council housing, but a combination of high rents and design flaws meant the estate later became a byword for vandalism and crime.
