In response to Mike Smith in March’s Vox Pop, I am happy to report that clerks of works are alive and well and working on many sites throughout the UK

Knowledgeable, yes, respected, yes, but site teams shouldn’t fear a clerk of works. Indeed, the discerning ones welcome a clerk of work’s presence as they see them as a valuable resource in helping to meet the client’s brief. An honest clerk of work is also there to give support at the right time.

Clerks of work have to ensure specification is followed, but this should be seen as a positive as it ensures accurate completion and the ongoing safety of the building.
