I very much doubt that I will be the first correct answer, but the building in your "In the detail" competition is Trellick Tower in Golborne Road London W10 – not to be confused with trendy Notting Hill – designed by Erno Goldfinger and constructed by Holland Hannon and Cubitts.

It is also a monument to the architectural arrogance of its age, being totally out of scale and context with its environment and built with scant consideration for the needs of the local people. That said, I actually like as it a building. It was the first I took an active interest in. I was fascinated when, as a young child, I watched the scaffolding and formwork fail during a concrete pour of the plant room shown in the photograph. I remember avidly watching with binoculars lots of nervous builders from our solid Victorian terrace in a nearby street and thought what a fun job construction must be, and wouldn't it be great to live in a tower block.

I changed my view when the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea decided to knock down our house and offer my mother a flat on the 18th floor, complete with attendant muggers, the foul smelling, vandalised lifts and the ever popular sport of balcony-cat-throwing. Oh the reminiscences come flooding back …
