The Bishop of Leicester during his Lent pilgrimage blessed the new environment-friendly heating system in All Saints church in Somerby, Leicestershire

The air-source heat pump system absorbs heat from the outside and releases it into the building using a small wall-mounted unit. The running costs are about £2.50 per hour compared with more than £20 with the old system. Carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by at least 50%.

The Church of England’s environmental policy states “the whole creation belongs to God”. As human beings we have a responsibility to love and care for what God has entrusted to us, as temporary tenants of the planet. We are called to conserve its complex and fragile ecology, while recognising the need for responsibility and sustainable development. The congregation of All Saints is happy to help make this policy a reality, thus help to save the planet, save money, save our wonderful grade I-listed building and save the previously frozen hands and feet of the congregation!
