The article by Jennie Price "The climate has changed" (17 February, page 40) was a clarion call for building services professionals.

At the Chartered Institution of Building Services engineers, we'd like to endorse that message. We ourselves took measures in 2003 to reduce carbon emissions from our headquarters by 60%.

Another element of our programme of action is the "100 days of carbon clean up" campaign, which is supported by the Carbon Trust. This begins in April and encourages companies to take steps to cut carbon in their businesses with CIBSE providing the support to do so.

Construction professionals can also sign up to CIBSE's register of consultants who are competent to design, check and operate buildings more sustainable than required by 2006 Part L.

Both the 100 Days campaign and the register of low carbon consultants are only precursors to a longer term commitment to energy efficiency. For more information on these, please visit www.cibse.org.
