“Manchester wins £10m consolation prize after supercasino shelved” – that’s a nice spin on things (building.co.uk, 28 February).

Manchester wins £300m worth of funding for regeneration and only gets £10m – and that is going towards clearing up the site that was being prepared for the supercasino. The various regeneration ideas are also rehashed proposals that have been either rejected or postponed from various white papers as far back as 2002. This has hit east Manchester hard. Well done Hazel Blears – big promises for your local constituents, huge disappointments when it comes to the crunch.
