Now the transitional arrangements for 2006 Part L have been confirmed by the ODPM, the industry is in a much better position to address how it adopts these regulations.

All designers, developers and end users should understand where a building sits in relation to 2006 Part L.

Consider, for example, the fact that the UK is legally committed to the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, and in the near future all buildings will be issued with asset ratings and operational ratings. Therefore the energy efficiency of a building will become a key differentiator, especially against a backdrop of rising fuel prices. Assessing buildings for compliance with the 2006 Part L is much more straightforward than many believe and meeting these requirements could be a important factor throughout the life of any type of property.
